Sew Russia: Fashion Is A Girls Best Friend-A Parade Of Skirts

I think I have become a skirt person. I never was a skirt person growing up. Sure. I would  wear them here and there, but I was more of a jeans and shorts type of girl. That all changed as I became a mom.

My daughter is so fashionabke. She loves to dress up. She has challenged and inspired me to switch things up a bit. I have always been in love with the 50’s housewife, malt shop, and date night looks.
Can you tell?

Here is a view of some skirts I have previously worked on. I just love them. I hope it inspired you in fashion!

Sew Russia: Food and Cooking-Super Easy Omelette/IHop Imitation Country Omelete

I am in love with the country omelets from IHop. I literally order it every time I go and have for years!

Omelettes can be one of the easiest, healthiest, and quickest meals to make.

What is the country omelette?

It is a mixture of eggs, ham pieces, onions, hash browns (I always ask for these on the side instead of in the omelette), and bell peppers (I ask that this be added).

Today I am going to show you how to make it from home. The amount shown can actually be for two, or if you want to cut it into pieces for meal prepping purposes…that is an option as well.

Ok…Let’s get started!

You will need to whip out your ingredients.

You will need:

  • Ham
  • Shredded cheese
  • Butter
  • Eggs
  • Season All or Salt & Pepper
  • Bell Peppers
  • Onions

Feel free to adjust the ingreditents to your liking.

I also want to add that IHop also stuffs their country omelette with shredded hash browns. I omitted this. I normally like my hash browns on the side anyway.

Here in Louisiana we LOVE Morton Season All. That, and of course Tony Chachere’s seasoning. Nothing can pry us away from our seasoning besides the doctor telling us it is vital to do so! Lol

Cut up your onion and bell pepper.

Honestly, this was my first time making an omelette in my new gadget, and I kind of discovered I over did it with  five eggs. This is perfect if you want left overs. You could totally do a meal prep with that amount. If not, about 2-3 eggs will do.

Add a dash of seasoning or salt & pepper.

Scramble your eggs.

Remember that “new gadget” I mentioned earlier? Well! Here it is! I found this omelette maker at Kitchen Collection located at the Tanger Outlet in Gonzales, LA. I think I paid around $10.00 for this.

This store has a lot of neat things. I have purchased a couple of other items from this store that I plan on sharing also.

Melt your butter.

Mix you eggs and other ingredients in and let your omelette cook on both sides.

The omlette maker closes shut so it is great for flipping your omelette over.

After letting it cook…viloa! You are done.

You are now ready to eat. Yum. Yum.

Here are a couple of pictures.

I purchased this tea from Wal-Mart. It should be in the same isle as the coffee.

Sew Russia: Quick and Easy DIY Kimono No Pattern Needed!!!

I have been in love with kimonos since I saw them. What a perfect way to jazz up a simple outfit. They also work well as a simple cover up.

I watched a couple of tutorials (Click Here & Here)  before I decided to give it a whirl myself.

If you are new to sewing this will be a very easy and cost effective project for you to try.

If you are new to sewing and need to know what supplies you need to get started watch my tutorial HERE. Also, if you need help with knowing how to thread your machine, watch my tutorial HERE.

I think I have created something I love and will be making more of these to come! I am excited to share this step by step visual tutorial with you.

Let’s get started!
Supplies and Tools

  • Sewing machine
  • Fabric (Between 2-3 yards- please note that fabric comes in different width sizes. Check you fabric width side before purchasing)
  • Matching thread
  • Measuring Tape
  • Pins

Suggested Fabric:

  • Chiffon, stretchy fabric, or you can purchase a large scarf from any retail store.

You want to select your fabric. I found this cute maroon and beige fabric in the remnant section of Hacock Fabrics

*Side Note* Hancock Fabrics has closed it’s stores and online presences  for good. You can buy fabric from any other fabric store.

You want to start by placing your fabric flat on the ground. You want the “wrong side”of the fabric to be touching the ground and the “right side” of the fabric to be facing upward.

The measurements of the fabric I have pictured is. 89.5 inches long and 56 inches wide. I am sure you can use less than this and be just fine, but I decided to use the whole remnant  roll I picked up.

Next you want to fold the fabric over. Now, at this point, the wrong side should be starting to face upward as you are folding the fabric over.

Your fabric should be completely folded over with the “wrong side” of the fabric facing upward and touching the floor. The “right side” should be sandwiched in the middle.

From the top of the fabric (where the fold is), I measured down 11 inches and pinned from that point all the way down to the end. This will create the armhole and will close the bottom of the kimono.

Here is a close up. Now sew from the 11 inch mark on down. I used a straight stitch and it came out just fine.

Once you have sewen the sides close; you will now find the middle of the fabic, and make a cut.

You only want to cut the top layer of fabric. DO NOT…I repeat…DO NOT make a cut in both layers of fabric.

Here is a closer look at the cut I made in the fabric. Notice how the back layer isn’t cut at all?

Next you are going to flip it over and hem the arm holes. You also want to zig zag stitch or serge the sides where you sewed. This will give your new kimono a more professional look. Aren’t you excited? You should be!

Now you can make thousands of these! I am sorry for being an enabler! Lol

I hope this tutorial was help for you. What do you think?

Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have anyquestions. I will try to answer as I can.

Happy sewing!!!!

Sew Russia: Our Mini Vacation & My DIY Wardrobe Challenge

Sewww…we took a mini vacation to Great Wolf Lodge and I decided to change myself by making all of me and my daughters attire for the trip. I am sewww excited about the outcome. I really out did myself. I even took on the challenge to make jumpsuits which I have been wanting to do for a awhile. I also tried some other new things as well.

First up! Me and my daughters bathing suits. I saw this anchor fabric in the store and thought it was the most adorable pattern I had seen. I wanted to do a little more with it, but with the limited amount of time I had, I had to go for the basic swimsuit.

I, on the other he hand, saw a graffi fabric that spoke to my inner bad girl and I had to have it. I thought a one strap/one shoulder look would be perfect for this type of fabric.

I had been seeing this  adorable mermaid bottom cover-up all over the intent and decided to give it a whirl. I think it came out sewww adorable! My daughter loves it. It’s the perfect swimsuit cover up.

Jumpsuits!!!!

My daughters jumpsuit can adjust to either a halter style or a two strap style. I promise you that was on accidnet, but it’s really cool at the same time. Overall it came out perfect.

For my jumpsuit, I was going for more of a tubetop jumpsuit look. It was very comfortable to wear as well. I just love this African/tribal print fabric.

Last but not least, I made a peplum top and pencil skirt combination. I am really excited about this one. Not only is it perfect to wear to work, but it is perfect for date night as well.

Sewww…what do you think?

Sew Russia: My First Plus Size Dress

I am sewww excited to share that I made my first plus size dress. The fabric I used caught my attention the moment I laid eyes on it. It is a pink and floral print stretch material.

I personally LOVE using stretch material because it is a very forgiving material and it adjusts to the shape of the body. It is ideal for different sizes and is very comfortable.

Here it is! The dress! I am thinking about our doing a tutorial on how to make this dress. It was sewww easy to make. what do you think?

Sew Russia: African Tribal Handmade Earrings

Hello! Hello! Welcome! Welcome!
I LOVE these African Tribal inspired earrings that I have recently designed. I think that celebrating culture is very important. It’s celebrating who you are, knowing who you are, and appreciating who you are.

In my business venture I look forward to connecting and getting to know many cultures as well as my own.

Speaking of my business! One thing that I admire about my business is that I support other entrepreneurs as well. My first intinct is to purchase supplies from handmade entrepreneurs. I love paying it forward by supporting others! I believe heavily in practicing what you preach.
